  1. Not to rain on the parade, but wouldn't this be a vs thread?
  2. Sub is rated for 900RMS and 3CUFT is what's recommended as well, so... However, the enclosure isn't tuned to 32Hz according to "my" calculations, or should I say Torres, nor is the internal volume exactly 3Cubes. According to Torres, the enclosure is more like 3.09cuft tuned to 36Hz after port and sub displacement. Not sure "I" agree, but that's what I got using Torres. Weather or not such is correct, it seems your amplifier lacks a subsonic filter, so I hope you plan to avoid playing anything with bass below the tuning of the enclsoures, be it 32Hz or 36Hz. Stuff from artists like Young Jeezy could spell disaster for the sub. Also, getting the gain set on the amplifier properly will be key, as the sub is rated to handle more power than that amplifier is rated to do, and I'm not so sure it can even do rated power at 1 ohm, at least not without one hell of an electrical system backing it.
  3. Yeah, I have it as well as an Alpine CDA-117 (didn't like it). Also have a CDA-9833 and then some cheaper HU's sitting around. Here's a couple photos of the majority of what i have sitting around (the easier stuff to get to). Don't feel like really digging to get everything out, if I can even find everything. Think I'm beginning to turn into a hoarder. LOL
  4. Yep, I've never been too eager to show off anything, even back when i did have a reasonably decent setup. While I was confident in it working properly, I've always been a little leery of showing strangers anything I have that may be of interest to them. My current setup, I driving a 99 Cavalier RS coupe that I put a Sony DSX-S200X HU in, replaced the blown sounding aftermarket Sony 6x9s that were just "sitting" in the rear deck under the rear deck cover (no wonder they sounded like shit they weren't even being held in place securely) with some Pioneer TS-A6983R 6x9's I had from my previous car (had to make some mounting rings to put them in, used particle board, but it's all under the deck cover so no one can tell), and then an Infinity Reference 1260w I bought to put in a JL HO enclosure but opted out and put it in a sealed enclosure within specs, powered with an Alpine MRD-M605 with is wired up using an 8GA Kicker amp wiring kit and (had to go look at the package) Streetwires ZN2.0 patch cables. It works. The front speakers sounded fine, more or less, when I go the car, but then the front right developed an issue, at times (not too often) it distorts as if it's blown. So, I decided I'd buy some speakers for the front. I have a pair of Alpine SPS-46C2 components I bought years ago for my Corsica but never used and for some reason, decided not to use them yet again. Instead, I bought a set of Alpine SPS-610C components. Figured I make a bracket to mount them and then switch out the rear speakers again, this time to the set of Alpine SPS-69C2s I have sitting in the closet (also from my planned system update in the Corsica I no longer have) and amp them, just not sure which amp I should use, I've got (4) of them to choose from. then depending on that, I'd need to settle on which of my sub setups I'd use as well as which mono amp. The more I think about it, the more I don't want to mess with it. LOL So, I have mediocre sound in my car currently and I'm just... dealing with it. Oh, and if I were to replace everything as I said, I'd have to swap out the HU as well, which I have Pioneer DEH-80PRS that's been sitting in my closet now for over a year, probably close to two. Bought it just a couple months after it hit the market. I'm horrible, I just keep buying more and more car audio and paintball equipment but don't seem to get any use out of most of it.
  5. Yeah, I love it when guys boast about how good their system is and how they installed themselves, then when I ask to hear their system, something fails to work. LOL
  6. Got a little excited with the post button I see. LOL I've heard reasonably decent things about the Optidrive line of amplifiers, you could have done worse. What sort of crossover did the tweets come with initially? Believe it or not, I heard a setup comprised of nothing but Pyle gear and if I'd have never known that's what it was, I'd have never guess it was such a "cheap" system. It's all about how it's setup. I don't care if you have a set of Audison Thesis speakers, if you don't know what you're doing, they can sound like shit. While relatively cheap gear can perform fairly respectably if setup/tuned properly. Edit Damn, why can't I seem to proof read my posts BEFORE posting, my abundance of grammatical errors sure show... how smarts I are. LOL
  7. Yeah, I don't much get it either. Why not go components and amp those. Anyways, why two different sizes? They will have different response curves so there could be undesired cancellation or peaks created.
  8. Cool, but what about your highs, I didn't see any mention of such. And I'm sure you'll be amping the Mids as well, if not already. Wish I had a vehicle worth putting a system in, or should I say , that I feel is worth putting a system into. I've already got plenty of equipment, nothing that'd touch what many of the members on here rock, but I could toss together a nice little system that runs at 1100RMS. Right now I'm just getting by with about the least, aftermarket HU, rar speakers, 12" sub and amp. The fronts are OEM and I think the passenger side is either on it's way out or it's resonating at just the right frequency sometimes to sound distorted. I just don't want to mess with it, the car's a piece.
  9. Should turn out pretty nice. May I inquire as to the HU and speakers you're running? And what do you have pushing your subs?
  10. Not a bad ride, nor setup. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar enough with installation of alternators to be of any real help, I've replace a couple OEM units on early 90's GM cars and that's it.
  11. I'm pretty new to the site, so I wasn't FULLY aware of the no VS threads, but I can understand it, I've seen many get ugly real fast, not just on car audio forums, but any forum. I've unfortunately only seen/heard one sundown in my life and it was an 8" SA series. It was a wickedly loud little beast and seemed to retain much clarity if I recall, but it's been 4-5 years since I heard it, many subs have been heard since. Alpine on the other hand I've heard numerous Type-R setups, just none of their current 1k line. "I" wouldn't push my luck on seeing ow long the Sundowns take 2K, I can't help but believe their life would be dramatically shortened if fed such regularly. Granted, if the gain were set for 2K with the amp, chances are rare the subs would ever see the full 2K and even if they did, it's be quite rare. Alpine's Type-Rs have earned a similar rep for taking abuse and I've known many to last quite a while under such conditions. Alpine is mainstream, while Sundown isn't so much. Chances are there's a larger following for Sundown on Audio forums such as this, but again, that's getting into hot water. May want to use WinISD and plot both of the subs. It's not a clear indication on which will be louder, but it can give you insight into which is likely to be louder. Both are sure to be more than capable of playing loud enough to cause permanent hearing damage/loss and get you sound ordinance violations, so... As said though, a large factor is going to be the enclosure used. Just how much room have you for the enclosure? Loud deep lows tends to take large ported enclosures tuned low. Oh, and your amplifier doesn't have two channels, it's a mono amplifier with two sets of speaker terminals wire in parallel internally. Wiring as you say, you will have each sub wired with it's coils in series for a 4 ohm load and with both wired to the amplifier, it's see a 2 ohm load and be capable of producing around 1600RMS. That's fine for the Sundown subs, but for the Alpines rated at 1K each, you'd want to opt for the DVC 4 ohm models and wire them in parallel/parallel for a 1 ohm final impedance. And then since you have said the money isn't an issue, perhaps you can somehow find a way to swing for a "better" amplifier, perhaps something like a Soundqubed Q1-2200D which is sure to produce every bit of 2k and then some.
