bjballar41 Posted June 14, 2014 Report Posted June 14, 2014 Well I've been away from car audio atleast 2 to 3 years. Not sure what is new if anything. I've got a system right now. A single 10 inch re sx mated to a usamps md1d set to 1ohm so about 1000 watts. I'm actually looking to get rid of it and go more towards sq but know nothing towards that. What's a sq sub? Does it matter on amps? Box wise I know sealed box is best. I've seen these soundqubed and skar are they any good? Don't really have an idea on budget but as always cheaper is better and I'm looking to sell my system probably.
Terra Rysing Posted June 14, 2014 Report Posted June 14, 2014 I have been out of the game since the late 90's. Back then I ran strokers and Shocker subs were popular, DD had just began to open up shop. To me a SQ sub is in a sealed box with low power.
bjballar41 Posted June 14, 2014 Author Report Posted June 14, 2014 what about with like fi they have the bl which is more spl 1500 watts, then the q which is more sq same wattage? rms that is
Weigel21 Posted June 14, 2014 Report Posted June 14, 2014 IDK, Moral has a pretty good reputation for SQ drivers. Hertz as well. Not too familiar with all the underground SQ themed brands. Soundqubed woun't be in that boat from my understanding, they are SPL oriented. And one can get a ported sub setup tuned for SQ, that's part of the beauty of ported, you can tune for a nice flat response. For example, look at the old Kappa Perfect line from Infinity, they could be tuned around 27Hz in their recommended ported enclosure and provide excellent range and still play with more than acceptable sonic accuracy/tightness. So when one says sealed is "best", I can't so much say that holds true, but it is the co0mmon belief/practice/whatever. I guess for a little evidence to back what I'm claiming, look at home audio, while it's a beast of a different nature, look how many top SQ oriented setups use a ported subwoofer.
bjballar41 Posted June 14, 2014 Author Report Posted June 14, 2014 i see what your saying i didnt really think of it that way. i just know im ready for some what of a change if i can sell mine and wanna go more towards sq instead of spl
Weigel21 Posted June 14, 2014 Report Posted June 14, 2014 To my understanding there's what people are calling SQ when merely referring to having a system that sounds clean and plays with sonic accuracy, then there's what SQ really entails, which takes it to a whole other level, in which soundstage/imaging are involved. And in the latter, a 3-way active system is pretty much a must. When one uses the term SQ, "I" tend to imagine an audiophile's setup. A nice high quality component setup up front properly powered and a sub setup (probably just a single sub) that's getting twice the combined power of the front speakers. No rear speakers and all EQ'd for a flat response. probably even the use of time alignment. That's what a SQ setup is in my mind, but I know the term SQ is used quite differently by many people.
OrionStang Posted June 14, 2014 Report Posted June 14, 2014 Ascendant Audio Havocs are some of the best sounding subs you will ever hear. Get low, loud, and sound amazing. Cheaper than Hertz and others. SMD Super Seller My Feedback Thread
