So for 14v batteries I would want banks of 7 right ? Doesn't that put the cap voltage at something absurd like almost 19v ?

Even at 6 caps you are at 16.2v. How do these things recharge when the alt set point is lower than the caps ? Help me understand but I like what I am seeing.

yep banks of 7 would do. it will lower your capacitance of the banks so id recommend 3 banks per 5k if using 7 per bank. they only charge to the setpoint of your voltage regulator.

caps dont have a set voltage like batteries. you can use them from .0001 volts all the way up to their max rating. if you have a bank of 7 2.7 volt caps, the HIGHEST voltage you can charge is 18.9 volts. anything under 18.9 volts is fine. I would personally recommend you only charge to 18.2 with banks of 7 to give yourself a .1 volt margin if your bank isnt evenly balanced. and for 6 cap banks i would charge no higher than 15.6. charging over the max voltage or near it can be dangerous if bank isnt balanced. but you never ever charge over a banks max rated voltage.
