is using rf punch bass knob bad ?

Recommended Posts

hi everyone ,

Im just wondering if using the bass control that came with my amp is bad , ive heard a lot of people on here say to never use a bass boost knob. I have gt a r1200-1d running 2 p3d4-15's . The gain has been set with the dd-1 with the knob turned up half way . most of the time I have the knob at around a quarter or less , am I clipping my subs ??

cheers guys

Agreed, but is this a remote gain knob, or a remote boost knob? There is a difference ya know.

i heard this and i want to know if it's true. it's kinda of a thread jack but because where on the subject of bass boost...

i heard that for every +3db of bass boost your amplifier (tries to) doubles the power at that hz.

so if you have a 1000w amp and have +3 bass boost at 45hz whenever your amp.sees that hz it will try to make 2000w and so on and so forth up to +12db

so +6 =3000w

+9 =4000w

+12= 5000w

is this True?

The prime amps use the PLC knob instead of the PEQ knob that the punch amps use. On the prime you set your gain with the knob all the way up and the knob acts as a remote gain setting.

once you get a speaker moving so hard that its possible to make tinsels slap, you are already kissing "SQ" goodbye. :D

Don't get me wrong, as I smoke Marlboro Reds, but if I saw one more kid with that smug-ass look (Look at me I'm smoking indoors) on their face, I was going to shove that thing so far up someone's ass that they'd look like a hillbilly trying to understand quantitative prediction theorem.

You know why people are ass holes online but not in person? Because getting punched in the mouth hurts.

interesting , so I should re tune with the dd1 with the knob all the way up and not at half way ?

I have unplugged it before and it sounds pretty bad without it ,

a better more powerful amp ?? the amp puts out 1200 watts at 1 ohm which is dead on with the rms rating of the subs , would a different amp sound better then ? thanks
