acal Posted July 13, 2014 Report Posted July 13, 2014 Well I was installing a switch for My led lights inside my car and accidentally dropped the positive wire and it touched the ground wire and it shorter something out.. I checked every fuse in my car and the one on my head unit and they are fine.. My head unit will only power up if I press the eject button or press the button to display the time.. I have no idea what to do
_paralyzed_ Posted July 13, 2014 Report Posted July 13, 2014 If all the fuses are good, your next step is to pull the head unit and hook it up directly to the battery. If the problem persists you fried your head unit. If it works you need to test light all the wiring.
Robert8252 Posted July 13, 2014 Report Posted July 13, 2014 I know it's after the fact but this is why it's recommended to always disconnect your battery negative when doing anything electrical. I'm guilty of not disconnecting it most of the time as well. 2013 F150 Crew Cab Old Build Log Feedback 2013 F150 Equipment - Some Awesome Stereo Sound Making Stuff
acal Posted July 13, 2014 Author Report Posted July 13, 2014 Yep just because I didn't want to take the extra minute to disconnect it.. I'm getting a reading from the meter from the yellow wire (battery wire) but not the full 12 volts
acal Posted July 13, 2014 Author Report Posted July 13, 2014 And no power from the accessory wire (red)

Robert8252 Posted July 13, 2014 Report Posted July 13, 2014 Sound like you could have just shorted a wire. Hook it to the battery directly. If it turns on then you have a burnt or cut wire somewhere. 2013 F150 Crew Cab Old Build Log Feedback 2013 F150 Equipment - Some Awesome Stereo Sound Making Stuff
islandpride684 Posted July 13, 2014 Report Posted July 13, 2014 What car is it? Normally the red wire is constant 12+ and the yellow wire is the ignition/accessory. Build Log http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/186921-blk9te-07-yukon-slo-mo-build/page-3?hl=%2Bblk9te#entry2881410
