What alt to get - 2000 F150

Hey guys,

Currently almost done with my new system except the alternator. My truck is a 2000 F150 4.6L V8 and I'm still looking around and trying to stay below the $400 mark., so far I've been quoted:

$349 - 240A G Series MechMan alternator.

$490/$455 - 300A/270A Excessive Amperage Alternator

$439 - 230A Stinger Alternator

Are there any other good reputable brands out there that would work? I'm only pushing 2400 watts RMS with my SAZ-2000D and PDX-F4.

I hear F150s around my era with the 4.6 have belt slip issues with anything over 250A and with most H/O alternators a smaller belt is recommended/required as suggested by MechMan. I also read so much about issues with voltage at idle and the alternator not "kicking in", would I have those issues with my truck?

Thanks for reading my post guys, there's just so much to learn about alternators and I'm trying to make the best choice possible.

If you're looking to get the best possible outcome, i'd go with the 300 amp, just save up for the extra amperage for the on board electronics and a little extra juice ;) it will be worth it in the long run when you have might get better equipment.

I wanna try to stay below the 250A or I hear you get massive slipping on these fords. This will be my final system I won't be going any bigger at least in this vehicle ever. So the alt I need is for this system and nothing bigger. So please don't suggest more to "future proof" my trucks electrical.

If that makes sense :)

How big is ur stock alt? Do you PLAN on upgrading to more power in the future? If the stock is decently large, you may want to consider adding to your bank.

It'll eliminate your concern of an alt not kicking on, the belt slipping, and idle voltage.

Stock alt is 130A and I have the stock battery up front. I mean if I'm going to spend $250 on a D3400 for up front and $300 for a decent battery in the back I might as well jump for an alternator.
