KMS
Sennheiser headphones love tube amps. However I'm saying this on behalf of 600 series and up. I'm not sure if the tubes would benefit the 280's. If you go with Schiit, they have a hybrid called the Vali which is $20 more than the magni. Tubes gives a warmer sound than solid state. Tubes also create a sound that wasn't part of the producing and is added in with no choice of the consumer. Solid state recreates the sound in the exact way it was supposed to be heard. I would have replied earlier, but I was measuring the output of my amp with a yardstick . . . What you hear is not the air pressure variation in itself but what has drawn your attention in the two streams of superimposed air pressure variations at your eardrums An acoustic event has dimensions of Time, Tone, Loudness and Space Everyone learns to render the 3-dimensional localization of sound based on the individual shape of their ears, thus no formula can achieve a definite effect for every listener.
