I'm also running around 3k and only have a stock alt and xs bat up front. Maybe later I will upgrade but as of now no HO alts is needed

You need power to create power. Lets assume your amps are 80% efficient meaning to produce 3000 watts you need an input of 3750 watts. 3750 w @ 13v (average) is 288 amps. This is the amperage you need at full tilt. But of-course music draws less but you can use that as a reference point. So a 140 amp alt will do but wont be full 3000 w
