afro Posted August 19, 2014 Report Posted August 19, 2014 I have two PWX 8"s and was going to try to fit them in the doors. Bottom line, it's just not going to work for me. I have an 05 silverado with the flip up center console, so there's plenty of room over the tranny tunnel between the dash and the front of the console. My question is, is this going to be worth the time? I can glass a center piece to hold them, but I'm concerned about running them in stereo. Here's where my brain has led me: If I'm in the drivers seat, my components are in the doors and two midbasses in the center console. My intent is to fire the midbasses up at the driver and passenger's faces, like if I was custom building kicks. Would I wire the midbass pointed at the driver to the Passenger's side signal, or to the drivers? Same question for the other side. Or do I just bridge the amp and wire both as mono? I'm thinking no since these aren't frequencies from the subwoofer stage that it would be best to keep it in stereo, not mono. Thoughts?
hispls Posted August 19, 2014 Report Posted August 19, 2014 Sounds like an acoustical nightmare. At the end of the day, if it sounds good to you go for it, but planting speakers in the center outside of the realm of 5.1 surround with proper 5.1 surround processing and 5.1 surround recorded material sounds like dirt IMO.... then again it'll be louder and I know plenty of people seem to think if it's louder it's better. I'd encourage you to not do anything too permanent when considering new speaker locations in case in doesn't work out... this is generally sound advice all around though.
afro Posted August 19, 2014 Author Report Posted August 19, 2014 that was kinda where I was leaning. I have a threesixty.2 and all the electrical and amps that are needed to do this, but the "acoustical nightmare" is what I was wondering. I'm wondering if I offload these 8"s and get a second set of 6.5"s dedicated to the ~100 to ~400 hz range, then glass both sets of 6.5"s into the doors. That is something I can definitely do.
