Hi, I'm VERY new to car audio. I've got a few questions.

I drive an 86 Chevy c10 pickup. Regular cab. bench seat.

1. I'm thinking about going from 2 Alpine Type E 12 inch subs in a sealed box, to 4 - 8 inch Sundown Audio E8v3 that are facing the floor of the cab, and having the ports on the top of the box.

- Will there be a noticeable difference in bass between the two, since the 8's have a smaller cone surface area?

- I'm also going to be putting in 2 pairs of 6x9's. How do I set up that to run one wire into the cab? Do I do like a 1/0 gauge wire from the battery into the cab, and then distribution block it off to the subs amp, and the 6x9's amp from there? If so, what gauge wire to I run to the subs? It'll be running 1500 watts RMS to the subs. And if I run a larger gauge wire to the Sub amp, will there be problems with getting power to the other amp?

* 1500RMS OVERALL, not to each of them!

- Will a ported box out do a sealed box in a small area like the cab of my truck? the E8v3's need .5-.75 cubes a piece. so 1.5-2.25 cubes for a ported box. Do I have to have them in their own separate sections? or can they be in the same space, with one port?

That's all I have at the moment. I may have more questions later.

(Please keep things in Layman's terms, as I'm new to the whole Car audio thing.)

Thanks!

2 12s = 24 4 8s = 32 cone surface area

4 - 8's = 201 in^2

2 - 12's = 226 in^2

You don't just multiply the numbers. it's not a square. it's a circle. Say Hi to Pi.

My question is the excursion of them. the 8's may move more air due to their larger excursion.

You've got it right. And I'm not one of the smart guys around here, but I bet if you look around a bit more you could find the answers to your questions.

I've never ran 8s, and never had a box in the cab of a truck, but I bet if you build a good box for those that will probably be louder than two low powered 12s in a sealed box, but there are so many factors.

Oh and about your electrical, let's say your brand "X" 1/0 can handle 300 amps, and if that is more amperage than your amps are capable of drawing then you're good.

I plan on using KnuKonceptz. I'm not sure what the method of finding amperage draw is. (watts/volts)? Does anyone know if that's a decent budget wire to run from the battery to the distribution block? And then with the splitting after the distribution block. should I go with 4 gauge on both sides?

Thanks for any and all info on this. It sounds like I'm probably going to have to step up my alternator game on this, and then later a battery. LOL
