Hey all,

I'm in the process of blueprinting my build. Figuring prices and such.

Right now, I'm at this

4 - E8v3 Sundown Audio 8" subs (4 ohm DVC wired to a 2 Ohm Final)

4 - Pioneer TS-AR6965 6"x9" speakers (Cheap, I know.)

1 - 3000 watt Amp. 1500 RMS @ 2 Ohm (Subs)

2 - BOSS R1002 Amps (Cheap, I know.) (1 amp for every pair of 6x9's)

Big 3 upgrade

XS Power 3100 (One battery setup, no other batteries for the vehicle) OR 2 Yellow tops (Dual battery)

200 Amp Alternator

Etc things to assemble the system.

Now, I've got a few questions.

1. I'm planning on a larger alternator. Would a 200 amp alternator with Dual Yellow tops work? Or would a Single D3100 Battery work with a 200 amp alternator. I don't plan on upgrading the system power wise, unless I decide to add Tweeters, or better amps for the 6x9's, and different 6x9's. But that wouldn't be an extreme upgrade in power. I COULD run Dual alternators, but I don't know of anyone who sells a bracket for a second alternator for Gen. I Small Blocks, Without sacrificing A/C. And I'm not giving up my A/C. I live in some hot weather in the summer (110+ at times), and will be soon moving to Dallas where it's even hotter. A/C is a must. I don't want to spend $400-$700 on an Alternator. I'm sure it's great. But not for my funds.

2. With the single D3100 battery, would that battery run the system AND my truck (Carbureted, few electricals. Lights, A/C, and a few smaller things) It says for systems with 4000-5000 Watts. Since I won't be running more than 3500 watts (Correct me if I'm wrong. Not sure on which watt measurement to use RMS/MAX.). How long would that battery last before needing a recharge? It says it has an RC of 237 minutes.

3. What if I bought the D3100 battery, didn't hook it up to my trucks electrical system, (Not running off an alternator) and used it ONLY for the Sound system, and then bought an XS battery charger to charge it as needed? Basically a 2 battery setup (Stock battery, and D3100). but on different circuits that don't meet. Would this be an okay thing to do? or are there complications with that? It would keep me from having to buy a bigger alternator, which is several hundred dollars. SOOOO, I could add that onto a better battery for the system (D7500).

I plan on keeping the full build under or around $1,500.

Please keep in mind, I'm new to the car audio thing. I'm still learning what does and doesn't work. I already know BOSS is :lame:

But it's powering 2 6x9's that are the same price as them. I'm not too worried about how they work. If they were powering the E8's, that's understandable. BUUUUUUT, they're not. B)

Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

Get a D3100 and be done with it. You're overthinking this, which is not necessarily a bad thing. A D3100 will handle your system and your vehicles electical needs WITH EASE.

Also, do not go with your plan on #3. That is not going to end well.

So, If I get the D3100, will I need to upgrade my alternator? a 200 is the biggest I can find before running into the super expensive one's. My stock one is pitiful. Less than 100 amps. Somewhere between 60-75. But, that's what happens when you have a carb'd engine. LOL

Yes, definitely get the 200 amp alt. That will be plenty. Take it from me who is also running a 200 amp alt. :)
