FineVisionz Posted November 22, 2014 Report Posted November 22, 2014 Hello, I recently got my first car. A 2003 GMC Sonoma ZR5. I took a ride down to my local car audio shop and they said the only sub they could fit behind the back seat was a 8in kicker hideaway sub. I did not want a 8in sub. So I decided just to get a bigger one a just put the sub on the back seat. But I would want to hook up the sub in a away so that I could easily disconnect the sub and take it out if I ever needed the back seats for whatever reason. So I come to you guys with some questions. 1) Is it better to have one good 12in sub, or two ok 12in subs? 2) Two 12in subs or one 15in sub? 3) What are some brands to stay away from? 4) What are some brand that really give you what you pay for? 5) Should you get a amp that has a little more watts or a little less watts than what the sub needs? 6) Can you use a stock stereo receiver?
Triticum Agricolam Posted November 22, 2014 Report Posted November 22, 2014 .. First off, putting a sub box on your back seat is a very bad idea. If you ever get in an accident that thing is going to fly forward and kill you. If you want to put subs in an extended cab trunk and can't put them under the seat, this is the better way to do it: Now to your questions: 1. All else being equal, more cone area will get louder than less cone area, but what would be better is very dependent on exactly what "ok" and "good" subs you are picking from. 2. Two 12"s have a little more cone area than one 15", but one 15" is generally going to be a good bit less money 3. Anything that can be bought at Walmart, seriously. 4. There are lots of good brands out there, ones I personally like are: Alpine, Infinity, SSA, Sundown, JBL, FI, American Bass, SoundQubed, and others. 5. This is very dependent on the particular sub, but generally you can get an amp that puts out 150% of the RMS rating of the sub without any issues, as long and you do everything correctly and use good equipment. 6. Should be able to. "Nothing prevents people from knowing the truth more than the belief they already know it.""Making bass is easy, making music is the hard part."Builds:
TRON Posted November 22, 2014 Report Posted November 22, 2014 Yeah you'll be hard pressed to fit a 15 in the back without either removing the seats, or that ^...which probably wont be that easy to remove, but it's better than having the enclosure sitting on the seat. Just asking: Why not an 8"? You could do something like two Sundown Audio SA-8's under the rear seat, that would still give you some good bang, plus you could have use of the rear seats without removing any of your gear. There's plenty of people with that kind setup. Avalanche Alpine Type S comps Alpine Type S 10'' Alpine MPR-F300 Alpine MRX-M50 Mechamn 270 XS Power d3400s

islandpride684 Posted November 22, 2014 Report Posted November 22, 2014 What is your budget? If you want to use your stock stereo, don't skimp out on LOCs...a processor would be ideal for your setup, but a high quality LOC would work as well...ie audiocontrol, rockford fosgate... May go a little higher if its really worth it.
