best box for 1 ALPINE SWR-10D2

i have purchased the ALPINE SWR-10D2 and will be running it off the MBQ OA1550.1D CLASS-D. i have a vw golf and room is limited. i listen to punk and some rap and was wondering if a vented box would be better than sealed and if so can someone help with designing a box. alpine give measurements but i don't see any for the vent. could be wrong. any feedback is greatly appreciated, thanks

So here is a suggestion for ported (which has better output than sealed) firing everything back or up, check estimated dimensions to fit your trunk space first, power: to sub rated, amp subsonic filter to 28Hz, minimum port clearance 2 1/4", figure is just an assembly guide:

If you make that box, you will be able to upgrade to something more powerful later on, with that double baffle. That ported box will sound better for the genre of music you want to listen to. Ported boxes will make your sub louder, while a sealed box will give a more accurate subwoofer sound across the spectrum.

What you said here is a pretty big generalization and is certainly not always true depending on how the subs are designed. The reason I'm picking on you about this is these are the kind of statements that lead to folks thinking stuff like "I don't like ported boxes because they sound like X, but I like bandpass boxes because they sound like Y."

The attributes of each different model of sub, the box they are put in, and the environment they are played in all have significant impact on just how that combination is going to sound. For example, in another thread there is a discussion on what size box for a Sundown X-15. The Sundown X series is known to have a pretty large peak in output around tuning, especially in larger boxes. The FI SSD series doesn't do this nearly as much. So an X-15 in a large box, in the back of a Civic hatchback is going to sound completely different than a FI SSD 15 in a small box, in a soft-top Jeep Wrangler. Even they they are both ported 15" subs. Furthermore, even if you put the X-15 and the SSD-15 in identical boxes and identical vehicles they are still going to sound noticeably different.

This is also why I hate to see it when people say stuff like "I don't like the way X size subs sound, I prefer Y size subs." With the right sub and enclosure I can make 8"s dig all the way down to 20 Hz no problem, but then there are 15" speakers for PA use that can't play below 80 Hz. Its all about how they are designed and implemented.

for the vented i can go 20W x 16H x 10D ( 11 if needed ). mounting depth is 5-7/8", can this be done

sealed is calling for .4 - .85ft³

will be running it at 1ohm

Not enough space for a proper ported box on those dimensions, I guess do sealed or prepare to give up some space, maybe a slanted box, here's something for sealed:
