yurvalentine Posted December 6, 2014 Report Posted December 6, 2014 I know some of you guys here are pretty good with this shit, so here's my problem. Currently using two routers daisy chained (bridged, whatever you want to call it.) We have our main modem/router from Comcast and then I have my own personal router that is connected to the first one. Some pipes or something in one of our walls blocks the signal to the point of it being unusable, whatever. Everything connects fine, never had issues running it this way. But I am trying to do some port forwarding and it isn't working. I should just have to forward to my second routers IP with the first, and then to my pc with my second router, no? I am probably missing something obvious but I can't get it to work...
n8ball2013 Posted December 6, 2014 Report Posted December 6, 2014 you're doing this wirelessly? Not all routers are capable of port forwarding over wireless. I bought a range extender for our house it was easier and cheaper than trying to set up port forwarding. yurvalentine Posted December 6, 2014 Author Report Posted December 6, 2014 Nope nothing wireless EDIT: Well, okay, I am using wireless but not for this. I use the router as a hub for all my stationary shit and my phone on the wireless
n8ball2013 Posted December 6, 2014 Report Posted December 6, 2014 so your second router is just acting as a hub? connected wtih cat5 cable THERE IS NO BUILD LOG! 1998 Chevy Silverado ext cab Alpine CDA-9887 4 Team Fi 15s 2 Ampere Audio TFE 8.0 2 Ampere Audio 150.4 3 Digital Designs CS6.5 component sets Dual Mechman 370XP Elite alternators inbound! 8 XS Power d3400 6 XS power d680 Second Skin Stinger Tsunami Wiring Sky High A Real Voltmeter not a piece of shit stinger.
yurvalentine Posted December 6, 2014 Author Report Posted December 6, 2014 My PC is, which is what I'm working with right now. Everything I'm dealing with in this scenario is hardwired.
n8ball2013 Posted December 6, 2014 Report Posted December 6, 2014 no what I meant is your second router shouldnt be doing anything but acting as a hub. no dhcp assignment or anything like that. Its not being used as an access point etc? If thats the case there is no port forwarding going on. It just blindly passes the traffic on to the main one and doesnt care. thats how I take what you are saying. yurvalentine Posted December 6, 2014 Author Report Posted December 6, 2014 Ah okay, yeah the second router is doing its own dhcp.
Jessica Posted December 6, 2014 Report Posted December 6, 2014 I beielive the router should be set to bridge not router. I haven't done it in so long I forgot the terminology. Maybe "gateway" or "repeater" in the settings. Rest in peace, walled 87 accord build log 03' Corolla build with AA Mayhem inside. My super random youtube channel and terrible camera work.
