solar panels and car batteries

Hey guys I have a quick question I need answered.

I've been thinking lately of wiring up 3 batteries together all 0 gauge of course 1 up top and 2 in trunk. Do the big 3 for sure. My question is, can I wire up a solar panel to my car to keep the batteries charged?

I would need some sort of meter to control how much charge the batteries get?

Last question is can I put the panel behind the rear deck with 5% tint on the back or will it not get no power?

Thanks for ANY help in advance!!!

^agreed.

Get a battery tender and just plug it in whenever the vehicle sits anywhere every now and then.

as for the tint having an effect, I can tell you that up at my cottage when there's snow on the panels (have the whole roof done) there's hardly the output that there is when there isn't any. Still does generate some power though.

Thanks a lot guys, I was just wondering because I had seen how the Prius uses the solar panels on top to run the air inside the car to keep it cool during the summer time, I was hoping to use the same teknique for charging my batteries during those days when I go out and my batteries were low.

Is it due to the fact that today's solar panels are not strong enough to pick up a big enough charge?

More due to the fact that tint is there to block a bunch of the sun. Even if you didn't have the tint, the cost and effort isn't worth it. It's not quite as simple as hooking a solar panel up to your battery and letting it do its thing.

You're much better off spending 20 bucks or so on a battery tender (look it up), and the convenience is there because you can leave it permanently hooked up and just plug the wire into it as you need it

Thanks a lot bro I was just wondering if it were possible and it is, but not very effective. Thanks I'll just stick with a battery tender and be done with it

Thanks for clearing this up!
