can i use the gain to lower wattage going to my subs

Ok i am going to be running 4 crescendo bc2000d on 4 fi Qs 12 which would be 8k on 6k subs and, i dont wanna blow them so i was thinking of getting my amps set with the dd1 and cc1 and backing off the amp gain a little bit more from the distortion point to lower the wattage. Do you guys think this will work. Or im just overthinking it.

I dont know to much on the how gain really works i just know it has to be set to match with the headunit..

Also i had 2 crescendo bc2000d strapped on 2 of the fi Qs 12 for a little while and they handle well but the gain wasn't set ....

so any advice
