Jessica Posted February 25, 2015 Report Posted February 25, 2015 So I put the zr1000 back in. It works fine but when I start playing at high volumes the ppi pc2300 shuts off. When I had the zr1000 in with the pioneer this never happened. I guess it's sucking all its power away? If you turn it back down it powers right back up in a second or two. Tomorrow I'll put the pioneer back in and see what happens. The 2300 is a 75x2 using all of it while the pioneer is like 150x2 I think so I had it turned way town. Maybe the extra efficiency was making it okay with the lower voltage? It's also class a/b vs "fd" this is all really weird though because I checked voltage at the back for drop many times and it was never going below like 13.5 but maybe it is now because...... this part concerns me a bit. when you say "using all of it" does that mean the gain is cranked wide open? TheMonolith2001 Posted February 25, 2015 Author Report Posted February 25, 2015 No all my gains where set with an oscope. I even used 0db. I meant a 75w speaker on a 75w amp as opposed to a 150w.

Anyway I checked out the sub it's reading 3 ohms which I believe is what it read brand new and about right for a Fi Q. Now that its warmer I'm actually not having any trouble anymore. It might have just been too damn cold. I've been running the ZR1000 for now haven't had a chance to put the PPI back in to see if its okay now but it probably isn't. I have the pioneer back in for the mids as well because I'm going to have to rearrange everything to get the smaller PPI amp to fit with that huge ZR1000. I might just leave it the way it is until I get the other PPI sorted. I might not even have enough wire to arrange it that way I have to check. God my amp rack has soooooo many holes drilled in it from moving stuff around so much haha. Maybe it's just me but the ZR1000 sounds a lot louder as well which is weird because when I first got the PPI I thought it was louder. Maybe that PPI had some problems to begin with? I found a good amp repair guy around here I'm gonna take it to. Well I should say my dad found him. He's already dealt with him a few times so it should be fine. I honestly would rather bring it to someone who has specific experience to these amps but car audio is pretty much completely dead around here. So the alternator got too cold wasn't producing enough power and the PPI probably blew up its power supply. Sound about right? If the temperature is affecting it like that its probably time to look for a new one? I don't really know a whole lot about diagnosing alternators.

TheMonolith2001 Posted March 30, 2015 Author Report Posted March 30, 2015 What do you mean take the sub out and test it? The sub works fine with the kicker. The alternator seems to be working fine now. No the amp does not smell burnt.
