dsw422
ok, so I have another box im getting ready to make for a buddy.. he's got a pioneer champion series 10" woofer. not the pro. I don't know the amp but im sure rated... anyway, i'd like to start advancing my box building and skills so I came up with a pretty neat idea for his box.. Dimensions are 30"w 14"d 16"t so after double baffle front (for design purposes) I have net volume of 1.95 cu.ft. my port width is 2" and 14.5" high. length is 28.. so after some internal bracing and woofer displacement, im hoping for 34htz.. SOO about the KERF port.. ive searched and found that to tune a kerf port, you add 1/2 the length of the kerf to the port length.. is that correct?? I want to kerf the port to give the box that extra wow factor.. I drew up what I had in mind.. definitely not drawn to scale but give me your thoughts... Im drawing up a better diagram on sketchup now 2014 Ford Focus SE Sedan Factory Sony 10 Speaker Sound System 1994 Ford Bronco Dual head unit (i kno) Sony door speakers Kenwood Rear Speakers Custom Center console in the works. will house an NVX NSW10" https://m.facebook.com/WinnsCustomCarAudio/
Joe X
That rule applies to flared ports, you can do a flare by kerfing but in your case the figure shows the width stays the same end to end so the rule doesn't apply. The rule would apply to the following box for example:
dsw422
Ok. So my design will only need to be calculated like a regular slot port?? 2014 Ford Focus SE Sedan Factory Sony 10 Speaker Sound System 1994 Ford Bronco Dual head unit (i kno) Sony door speakers Kenwood Rear Speakers Custom Center console in the works. will house an NVX NSW10" https://m.facebook.com/WinnsCustomCarAudio/
Joe X
Yes unless you decide to to do the side wall of the box straight which is what commonly gets done when kerfing.
dsw422
Well my outside port wall will b mainly straight. The front face edge is going to be 2 inches so that will be a small kerf.. could do a 45, but I'm trying to match the main kerf.. In other words, the main kerf will be about 6 to 8 inches.. the exterior kerf will be about 2 to 3 inches.. If that don't make sense, let me know 2014 Ford Focus SE Sedan Factory Sony 10 Speaker Sound System 1994 Ford Bronco Dual head unit (i kno) Sony door speakers Kenwood Rear Speakers Custom Center console in the works. will house an NVX NSW10" https://m.facebook.com/WinnsCustomCarAudio/

Joe X
Looks nice, functionally not sure. A challenge to build for sure, see what you get if you make it.
CarAudioFab
I would make those corners a tighter radius so it doesn't block as much of the port. -Mark Host of "CarAudioFabrication" - YouTube Car Audio Tutorial Channel Check out my forum section here on SMD for my builds and tutorial videos! Or the face corners.. btw, all of the face will be routered with a roundover bit.. i just dont know how to do that in sketchup... 2014 Ford Focus SE Sedan Factory Sony 10 Speaker Sound System 1994 Ford Bronco Dual head unit (i kno) Sony door speakers Kenwood Rear Speakers Custom Center console in the works. will house an NVX NSW10" https://m.facebook.com/WinnsCustomCarAudio/
