noble brown Posted March 8, 2015 Report Posted March 8, 2015 ive been trying to figure out the port area for 2 type r's (swr12d2). box will be 17x32x12 tuned to about 32. currently powered by a mtx 81000d @ 2ohms so they are slightly under powered but that will change soon, they will be fully powered in a few weeks or so when i swap out my amp set up. im using bassbox pro to model my box and w/ the port at 15.5x2 port length is 24.5. but idk if this is enough port area. im thinking not but im no pro so i throw this question out to the pros.
Triticum Agricolam Posted March 8, 2015 Report Posted March 8, 2015 Yeah that's not enough port area and your port aspect ratio is too high. What amp are you planning on upgrading to? noble brown Posted March 9, 2015 Author Report Posted March 9, 2015 Either two AB HDs strapped or a c2 recon. Midst likely going with the HDs so I can run em @ 2 ohms. How do I calculate aspect ratio or rather what is the ratio. I thought it was to high too but the program said otherwise.
noble brown Posted March 9, 2015 Author Report Posted March 9, 2015 Does this sound right? Slot area= 79(14.5x5.5) w a length of 54. 3 cubes tuned to 32. 2*12@ 21xmax. 54 inches seems hella long. But idk if I'm missing something. These calcs are via carstereo.com
Joe X Posted March 9, 2015 Report Posted March 9, 2015 A proper box will be different for every sub you pick I would recommend deciding on the subs first and go from there, also make sure you know how much trunk space you have before deciding on the subs.
Joe X Posted March 10, 2015 Report Posted March 10, 2015 30 square inches of port area per driver is going to be enough for those subs on rated power and the box you describe, your port length will be reduced.
