sactownstang
When your running lot's of power (kws)8ga is better then 12ga.... If I see 2000 watts going to a sub I don't want to see 14 gauge no matter how short. Edited April 8, 2008 by sactownstang
BigPimpin91
Distance creates resistance also, so this is probably why the tinsels can be smaller gauge than the rest of the speaker wire. They are short enough to carry more juice than a long run of the same size. That answers my question. I had the same question as Thewes. "Why run big speaker wire if the tinsels are so small?" I completely for got to add in length for resistance. Quote BigPimpin91's Banging Music
banginAltima
Not like that would matter though, I figure if anything- the choke point would be the tinsels, now I could understand if the tinsels were in 4 gauge wire, but wouldn't anything larger than the tinsels just be somewhat pointless? Look at it like this... why run such a large wire to the amp? When you look inside some amps that wire is small. Its not the size of the wire in what ever you are hooking up, its the size that you put to it that matters most. Go with the biggest you can. I got a friend who spend 800 dollars on an amp but won't spend the money to upgrade his 8 ga ground wire. If you are going to spend that much money on your equipment, do an over kill on wire. sdrawkcaB
This may be a noob question and (maybe?) off topic but what if you accidentally cut your 4awg power wire too short to your amp, how would you add on ( and connect) the right amount of wire to your short piece you made by mistake? Is it possible to connect the two in a way without losing power? Its 4awg so you just cant twist the two together lol (and lets say that you can't re-run your wire because you don't have another piece long enough) I'm just curious as to what possible solutions there are... Or you can get a nice looking fuse holder and say you meant to do it that way. Quote If you build it, db's will come...
