Help fitting an SSA 12” Icon in my 2006 GMC Duramax Crew Cab

Newly registered to this forum, but I’ve been reading this forum for quite a while.

Long story short, a few years ago I had an extended cab 2003 Silverado and I had someone on the forums build me a custom box for my 12” Icon. It was 2.0ft^3 tuned to 34Hz and fit under my seat without any modifications and sounded great being pushed by a SAE-1000D. Fast forward a few cars later, I bought another 1500 extended cab as a daily driver while my Evo IX sat in the garage. I still had my old box in the garage so I ordered another 12” Icon and SAE-1000D because that was the easiest thing to do since I already had a box that was proven. Well I decided not to modify the 1500 I bought, parted out and sold my Evo IX and bought my current truck which is a 2006 Duramax CCSB. I am now trying to figure out how to fit this sub into my crew cab since it’s a completely different seat setup than the extended cab.

I have tossed around a few ideas and I think the most feasible at this time is to remove the 40 side (passenger) of the 60/40 rear seat and have a box built for that empty area. I rarely have people riding in the back and 5 days out of the week I use my truck for work and I put a lot of stuff in the drivers side rear seat so I can hop out and grab it easily. I originally wanted to raise the seat and fit it underneath again but I don’t see that happening with the way the crew cab seats are built.

I am looking for suggestions for those that have done or seen it done. For example, how should I mount the sub and which way should the port face, etc… I would prefer to not see the sub, so either downfire or point at the back of the truck, unless you guys suggest otherwise. I won’t be building the box myself because I have no woodworking tools or knowledge, so I’ll have someone reputable build it for me.

Any recommendations on which way to face the sub and port?

can you remove the lower portion of the seat and build the box there? no one sits there so no need for it to be comfy. get some foam shape it upholster it and glue it to the box

So you're saying to remove the lower part of the seat but leave the back of the seat in? I guess I assumed if I'm going to do this I way as well go for as much airspace as the sub can handle like the picture I posted. The bottom of the frame is pretty tight and makes getting a 12" sub in there with a box pretty tough

no i mean remove it and get some foam to shape it like the seat and set it over the box.. the box will now be the frame for the seat

are you going to run dual subs or just one? i see where you say i got another ssa 12 and a sae 1000.. if youre only running 1 12 then the 40 seat removal i wold do. dual 12's i would remove the lower portion of the seat

I don't see that working unless I raised the rest of the seat as well. It is a very low seat in these crew cabs I think it has like 7" of clearance in stock form. But that is a good idea and I'll think a little more about that. Would it be safe to have an MDF box be the frame of a seat?

Right now I just have a single 12" sub, I think the 40% seat box is my best route and if I ever need that seat for a road trip I can swap them out in less than an hour I bet...
