TriassicReef Posted May 26, 2015 Report Posted May 26, 2015 I see alot of boxes with square ports and super short vent length but are supposed to be tuned low. like this box in the marauder https://youtu.be/liR6RWTs-UQ and kinda like steve meades box? can somebody please explain why this is and how the port functions/designed. I am really confused
Triticum Agricolam Posted May 26, 2015 Report Posted May 26, 2015 Well first off, just because that guy thinks his box is tuned to 29 Hz doesn't mean that it is. Second off, tuning is a function of port area, box volume, and port length. If you have small port area, and/or lots of internal volume, the port doesn't have to be very long to tune low. The box in the video is pretty good sized and doesn't have as much port area as it probably should. Broke_Audio_Addict Posted May 26, 2015 Report Posted May 26, 2015 That's a small port for those subs, I bet it sounds horrible. That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals.
