Do you have the knowledge and tools required to set the gains on the 1000/1 and 500/1 to give each subwoofer the EXACT same power output? If you're asking questions like these, then I doubt it.

Resell value on JL's products is high. I'd sell the 1000/1 and buy something else. You said you're strapped for cash, so using JL anything isn't the way to go. That's probably the number one company you're going to pay for a name badge.

some watts less or more aren't gonna make that much of a difference to the speakers. i say build it bro! to this day jl audio amps are still one of favorites, even if you dont hit a 150 i bet it will be awsome, most likely you will upgrade down the road. fun part of this hobby is to experiment we where all young and broke at some point specially in high school.
