escalade_casey Posted June 13, 2015 Report Posted June 13, 2015 I am about to order two team Fi 18's and put them in the back of an escalade and push them with 2 CT Sounds 4k's strapped. On the website they say the recommended air space per sub is 5-8 cubes. Im curious at where in that range I should build my box. What is the advantages of the larger versus smaller box ? I will be using it most of the time for music daily and maybe a little local competing here and there. Also should I tune my slot port at 32hz or something higher/lower. Any info and advice would be greatly appreciated.
Triticum Agricolam Posted June 14, 2015 Report Posted June 14, 2015 The larger the box the more output you get around your tuning frequency. You also get more cone excursion. Intense Audio Posted June 16, 2015 Report Posted June 16, 2015 i've done (4) Fi 18's in a wall in 5.25 cubes net each and i've done (4) 18's in a wall with 7.7 cubes net each, the enclosure with 5.25 cubes per sub plays tight, clean bass and the enclosure with 7.7 per sub plays really deep smooth bass and moves alot more are. the 21 cube net enclosure is tunes to 30 hz and the 30.8 cube net enclosure is tuned to 27hz. Here's the video link of the (4) 18's on (2) bd4000's tuned @27hz. the new setup has (4) team 18's in the same enclosure on (2) crossfire 8k's https://youtu.be/8TjFEHwEvYA I'm always opened minded and if there's anything you want to know, just ask! Masterbasser Posted June 18, 2015 Report Posted June 18, 2015 id suggest a tune of 35-38 hz. not sure why everyone likes to tune so low these days i had a box tuned at 32 and switched to one at 38 and it was way louder and seemed to sound better to as far as the box id build it as big as you can and keep it under the window line i guess it would also depend on the music types u like, i play no decaf music nor do i really like bass under 30 hertz i think its jsut a buncha air moving around Kenwood excelon ddx795 3 370 amp CES alternators (audio side only) McLaren dome tweeters Crescendo 6.5 ultra neos NVX JAD800.4 4 PA x4 SPL 18's 4 Digital Designs m5's at .7 ohms each 2 K2 80 ah lithiums 3 group 31 agms Ledglow million color (12 piece) 2007 Yukon xl
bkolfo4 Posted June 18, 2015 Report Posted June 18, 2015 35 is a good mix of low end and output, but above that people start trying to play down into the mid 20's and rip the sub apart mechanically due to incorrectly setting the subsonic filter. Current system: 1997 Blazer - (4) Customer Fi NEO subs with (8) American Bass Elite 2800.1s Previous systems: 2000 Suburban - (4) BTL 15's and (4) IA 40.1's = 157.7 dB at 37 Hz. 1992 Astro Van - (6) BTL 15's and (6) IA 40.1's = 159.7 dB at 43 Hz.
