cocoleveo7686
So i am looking to upgrade my subs. I currently have 1 xfl 12. I had 2 but i sold 1 to my brother. The 2 i had were in a 4.0 cu box tuned to 33hz running off an AB xfl 175.1 I also have a 275A Singer alternator with 2 batteries so i could run the 175.1 at .5 ohm if i have to. Im looking at upgrading i guess u would say. Say i had a 4.0 CU box with the same amp and if swaped out xfls with hdc3, then with RF T2, then with X brand What would be noticeably louder than the xfls i had?I see the hdc3 have a 36mm xmax and the xfl only have a 19Budget on 2 subs is $600-700 tops I have looked at the tantric hd, AA 3.0, T2, XFL, FI SSD, FI BL, Etc. Looking for something as loud if not louder than my 2 12 xfl but only have 4.0 cu to work with. If i go with a 15" subwoofer i willl have to mount it sub up port back in the trunk of my car
Triticum Agricolam
Using the same box, and on the same power, you aren't likely to get much of any noticeable increase in output just swapping out subs. If you want to get louder you need more cone area, more power, or the best would be to add both. Joe X
Your XFLs would sure like a larger box, maybe you should pick drivers that work in less space and/or check your box, sometimes port area and tuning corrections alone can improve your performance. I could go with 1 15 but it would have to be sub upward port back and in a trunk car i heard thats not the best. I figured getting better subs with a higher sensitivity and xmax would play louder. Im gonna have to take pics of my trunk. I liked the xfl but they didnt sound the best.
Joe X
Right no 15", stick with 12s, probably the ones that work in smaller enclosures. Post pics and specs of your box and trunk.

cocoleveo7686
as promised here are the pics, dimensions of current box are 37 width by 13.5 height by 21 deep. port hole is 5" ,the depth is 15" and the width inside is 11.5 I believe it tuned to 33hz 19" trunk opening 45" wheel well to wheel well inside trunk 43" trunk opening width max height obv cant go that high unless i build box inside trunk
Joe X
Ok first onto your old box, here's what you are describing: The dimension of the part with a question mark seems you didn't give BUT regardless it looks that your box is way to small, 2.25 cubic feet net (that includes driver displacements and the port displacement). Those subs will work on 2.25 -2.5 net each so likely if the dimensions are right your subs are underperforming due to a small box.
cocoleveo7686
The part where you put 13.75 behind the subs is 15" and the ? You have in the sketch is 11.5 So i only have 2.25 cubes right now with that box?
