First PC Build, How does it look? [WAITING ON PARTS]

Recommended Posts

That's a pretty solid board. I run a MSI Z87 MPOWER MAX AC that I got from microcenter for $40 after purchasing a i7 4790K for $279. I love their boards.

Sadly, the closest micro center is 8 hours away -_- so it's online sale hunting for me. I'll prob buy this and look at the Amazon annivsary sale and hope some parts come up

Just so we're clear.... you're on Newegg's eblast email list right? Deals on like 60+ decent items every single day. There's always 6-7 motherboards, 6-7 packs of RAM, videos cards, etc etc etc. Just making sure you know all your options.

Oh and there's ALWAYS HDD on sale. lol

Couple 16GB kits of RAM for under $100 in there. The Corsair is 2400MHz too. Quicker RAM capabilities will pay off more when you overclock. Couple solid namebrand cases in there for under 100 bucks too.

Promo codes last 1-3 days, but the mailer changes every day.

From that promo link, this is an excellent deal:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231617

Pretty much the same as the 2400MHz RAM I recommended... It's 2133MHz but CAS is 9, so it's pretty much going to be the same performance as mine.

Also, that GTX 970 MSI Gaming version is a better deal too:

I wouldn't plan on getting a GTX 970 if you want to run SLI in the future. I'd suggest to just spend a little more up front and get a GTX 980.

Yep. ALMOST bought that RAM for myself. But then I walked into a good deal on some lesser RAM. Too good not to use at the time.

I tend to lean away from MSI motherboards. Their top tier boards are fine but the mid-bottom end boards always seem to cause me problems. Maybe i'm just unlucky with them because the mid-low end boards i've used have been their AMD boards.

Any time you have have a power wire next to your frame put some rubber hosing (or cut up an innertube) around it. The wire is bound to wiggle (due to driving or flex) and the casing will eventually wear through.

Alright guys, I did a little changing to list and looking into buying parts soon. Here it is:

CPU - $235.99: Intel Core i5-4690K Processor 3.5 GHz LGA 1150 BX80646I54690K

Graphics Card - $350.00: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970

Case - $140: NZXT 630 Corsair or Phantom Mid-Tower case ( > $100 )

OS: Windows 8.1 than upgrade to Windows 10

Motherboard - $190.00: MSI Z97-Gaming 7 or ASUS Z97-PRO

RAM - $55.00: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB Single DDR3 1600 MT/s Corsair Vengeance 16GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 or Kingston HyperX FURY 16GB (2x8GB) 1600 MHz DDR3 CL10 DIMM - Blue

HSF (Cooling) - $35.00: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan My brother said I don't need one right away since im not going to start OC right away, but I might still buy it since its cheap

HDD - $51.00: Seagate 1TB Desktop HDD SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive Will buy one when I need more space or find a sale

SSD - $85.00: Crucial BX100 250GB SATA 2.5 Inch Internal Solid State Drive

Power Supply - $140.00: EVGA 850 G2 650W to 700W , not sure which brand

Total: Cheaper -_-

Between this, which RAM? As well as will this be okay at the beginning and I will look for an HDD, etc when they're sales? Thanks btw for all the advice. I don't think I'm going to need the RAID just yet as its my first PC build. Unless I can find a decent price.

You don't need the RAID, but I would get a HDD for bulk storage as I mentioned in a previous post. I'd recommend dual channel kit @ (at least) 2133Mhz for RAM. You may not need a badass cooler to OC right away, but heat kills parts. The cooler you keep everything, the better. Doesn't matter if you OC or not.

I use the FM2+ mATX gaming edition board. It cost me about $98. That price is mid range for me, but it's kind of their top tier for AMD. I've had nothing, but luck with it. Really solid board. I've owned 2 other AMD MSI boards and they've done a great job for me.

AMD boards are not fun to mess with. AMD's AM3+ boards have not had a chipset refresh since 2011. Their current gen stuff is like first gen Intel i7's on the X58 chipset.

Because they threw all of their money at the FM2+ socket and all it's CPU architecture revisions. AM3+ is pretty much dead. Not sure why they're still making new boards for them. It's pretty much maxed out at this point.
