d-nice88 Posted July 12, 2015 Report Posted July 12, 2015 Ok fellas so im going to be installing a system in my buddys impala. I just had a few q's before I start. 1st is where can I run the 4 g power wire thru on the firewall. 2nd is there anything special I need to hook up the double din pioneer hu besides the harness ? Im getting one that can intergrate his steering wheel controls. Any help is appreciated
Stephen13 Posted July 12, 2015 Report Posted July 12, 2015 I just installed a Pioneer AVH-P4400BH in my sister-in-law's '13 Impala yesterday. I used a PAC Audio OS-4 and an Axxess Interface ASWC for the steering wheel controls. Plugged it all in and everything works like a charm. You'll also need an antenna adapter. She has no plans to add any amps so I can't help you with the power cable passage thru the firewall. 2011 Chevy Silverado LT 5.3L 4x4 Ext.-cab "Enjoy yourself. It's later than you think."
d-nice88 Posted July 12, 2015 Author Report Posted July 12, 2015 Cool beans bro thnx for the reply hopefully someone else will chime in on the power wire issue
Stephen13 Posted July 13, 2015 Report Posted July 13, 2015 BTW... The OS-4 has been discontinued and the OS-5 has taken it's place. I went with the Axxess steering wheel interface on the recommendation of an installer friend of mine. He told me the PAC interface had latency issues that the Axxess did not. When I had the 4400BH installed in my truck I wanted to clean up the install a bit by going with an all-in-one interface. I bought the PAC RP5-GM31 that worked for about 5 minutes. I got it all wired up and made sure everything worked as it should prior to stuffing everything back into the dash. Once I had it all back in the dash the steering wheel controls failed. I pulled everything back out to see if I had accidentally disconnected something or maybe pinched a wire but everything checked out OK. I ended up returning the RP5 and went back to the OS-4/Axxess combo. Take a look at this thread. http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/198822-2012-impala-system/ The OP might be able to help you with routing the power cable. 2011 Chevy Silverado LT 5.3L 4x4 Ext.-cab "Enjoy yourself. reedal Posted July 13, 2015 Report Posted July 13, 2015 Typically, there should a be factory grommet to the left of the brake pedal under the dash, you can try to squeeze it through there. Not on the outside of the grommet, through it. Otherwise you're asking for a short. Just get down under the dash and start looking for a grommet closest to the side the battery is on.
