01goodwina Posted August 7, 2015 Report Posted August 7, 2015 Can I just confirm what my thought pattern is: 300a alt with 1 1/0awg means 300a fuses 300a alt with 2 1/0awg means 150a fuses each? Struggling to find a confirmed answer online without confusing myself.
ILuvJDM Posted August 7, 2015 Report Posted August 7, 2015 I thought you fuse to the wire regardless of what's going through it? So whatever your 1/0 is rated for is what size fuse you get. It will be the same in both scenarios
RooTxBeeR Posted August 7, 2015 Report Posted August 7, 2015 Yes you fuse a wire for the capacity it can handle. Unless it is a power from a distro block going to an unfused amp, and that fuse is there then to protect the amp, that one would be rated to the amps fuse rating. jbeez Posted August 8, 2015 Report Posted August 8, 2015 For voltage sources you fuse within 18" of the source output for the ampacity of your wires. For devices that call for external fusing, you have two options. Fuse near the device which is most common, if your device is close enough to your source and it calls for a lower fuse rating or the same, as the wire would use, you can put that fuse within 18" of your voltage source. For example, rear battery bank and a monoblock in the rear that calls for 250A of fusing on its 1/0 input, you can put the 250A fuse in the holder near the rear batts that is there to fuse the wire run, and it will be safe for both duties.
