soundstream15 Posted September 19, 2015 Report Posted September 19, 2015 I got a 08 grand prix and I had for 3 days now, just got a few things installed and my volt meter was one of them, so started my car and it's 14v I start driving and I noticed the voltage was slowly going down, it ended up at 12.8v. So shut it off and restarted car, right back up to 14v and it always keeps repeating the process. Even used a dmm to make sure, idk if this is normal for this car bc of a voltage reg or ecu or whatever the hell it got or is the alt going bad?? Ugh
MotorCityFats13 Posted September 19, 2015 Report Posted September 19, 2015 sounds like one of those smart charging systems that GM has came up with... they drop the charge to stop the drag from the alt boosting your fuel economy.... after it drops turn on the AC/heat and headlights and see if it climbs back up.... tons of threads on here about smart charging and it sounds like what you are experiencing
soundstream15 Posted September 19, 2015 Author Report Posted September 19, 2015 I don't think ac pulls electronic... I'll try but I think your right bout gm and there smart choices they make
BigManAC Posted September 19, 2015 Report Posted September 19, 2015 I know my car (Saturn from GM) I had issues with the PCM. It would start charging at 14.Xv then start dropping like yours is doing. Eventually it wouldn't let the alt charge at all. I ended up just bypassing it. 2001 Saturn L200-Sony MEX-BT4100PFRONT STAGE:- (4) Crescendo PWX 6- Cadence XA250.2SUB STAGE:-Fi Audio BL 15 (Sealed Off)-Crescendo BC2kELECTRICAL:- Singer 240A alt - XS Power D3400- SkyHigh OFC power/speaker wire- Big 3 with SkyHigh 0gaugeBuild Log: Click HereScores: 146.5db @ 29hz Outlaw
