memphis pr1000.1, 1.85 cu ported box, soundqubed hds3 12 or american bass xfl 12?

I currently have a memphis pr1000.1 pushing an older type R at 2 ohms. (600 rms). I'm looking to upgrade to either a soundqubed hds3 12 or an american bass xfl 12 because my amp does 1000 rms at 1 ohm. My box is ported and 1.85 cu but not sure what its tuned at. Which of these two subs would preform better in this size box? Also I drive a 1998 mustang gt and the sub and port is facing the back of car right now. I'm also open to other subs around the same price range if you can think of some. Mainly looking for output but also want some sound quality as i listen to several kinds of music, thanks!

Going from 600 watts to 1,000 watts isn't going to make much difference in output. You probably won't even be able to tell.

Either of the subs you are looking at might be able to work in that box, but we would need to know the dimensions of the port to get an idea of the port area and tuning.

Probably the best thing for you to do if you want to upgrade is to at least build a new box to go with your new sub, to get the best performance out of it. If you can increase your cone area by running a larger sub or multiple subs, that would help get you more performance too.

I am pretty sure the Alpine box will not have the needed port area for either sub, a 2+ cubic feet net box would be more efficient.

Right and fixed but still the overpowered HDS is likely to benefit from larger net/port area box output wise.

I'd recommend the SoundQubed HDS312 just because they sell a recone kit for it. I've always been tempted to try out the AB XFL sub though, the basket design reminds me of digital designs 3500 series subs.

You will want a box like this if you go with the SoundQubed HDS312:

The basket is slightly wider on SoundQubed's HDS312's subs and it won't fit in a traditional prefab box... You will have to use a jigsaw or router to widen the opening if you go with your current box... That is if you are not capable of making your own box, which is always recommended if possible.

Seem good box specs but $141 is a lot to pay for a $159 sub.

I'd suggest going with the XFL in a self made custom box for it, it's a better fit as the amp is already 1K.

I agree the price is definitely expensive... Especially for not even being a double baffle enclosure.

Thanks for the input guys! It's getting a little cold out about now so ill probably just bump with this for the winter and build a nice custom box for the xfl this sping. I found out the tuning on this box is 47hz. Who the hell builds a box at 47hz? haha Anyway, I had a soundqubed hdc3 15 a couple years ago and loved it but i have heard a lot about american bass so i guess ill try it out and see how i like it. What should i tune the box to for the american bass?
