First HT DIY sub, need help

Recommended Posts

Yup same dimensions, now that I think about it you might want to make it 1/4" wider (18.75") just so you have a little more room between the subs.

also, is that just a "for example" version of the interior? I notice it only has one sub cut out so I'm curious. I really look forward to building this cabinet, with all the specifications and all that will it have angles of the line and all that too?

Horns are a lot of work to build though, I really had to push my woodworking skills to build the Tuba HT, I hope you've got a decent table saw!

thankfully I do! and a nice jigsaw and router too! might actually get some use out of the table attachment for the router finally lol

Quick question, should I round over any interior corners or turns in the horn? does it make a difference?

You certainly can, and I like on the builds I do, just because it looks nice. There really is no performance benefit though.

How do you like that iNuke? I looked into one a while back but heard that the fan was excessively loud and I didn't want to deal with swapping it out.

Well technically I haven't received it yet, have about 16 days until delivery *wink, wink* I anticipate loving it though :)

However, in terms of the fan noise, it's a 5 minute fix and can be made silent for less than $20. If you've ever swapped out a computer fan you can handle the swap on the amp. Just make sure you get an appropriate CFM and you're golden. I'll be doing that within a week of getting it just to have it taken care of.

I really like mine, but it does have its limitations. First off, the good things. Its TONS of power for the money. The DSP is awesome. I plug into it with my laptop and have easy and complete control over all the DSP functions. The voltage limiting functionality works great. Its really light and compact for the power it puts out. I use mine mostly for testing in my shop and it works fantastic for that purpose. I wouldn't hesitate to use one for home audio subwoofer duty either.

The not-so-good things. The fan does make noise, but its never been an issue for me. The output numbers were definitely set by Behringer's marketing department. I figure my nu3000DSP is good for about 2200 watts on music. Continuous RMS power will be considerably less. From the research I've done, these amps are great for subs, but don't have the best sound quality for full range usage. Some folks don't like that the power supplies aren't power factor compensated.
