Original Bass knob vs Universal

Installing my zapco z-3kd soon. There is a zapco bass knob zapco z-br that you can purchase to go with it. I've seen alot of these "bass kobs" that tend to be bass boost vs actual sensitivity knobs (such as universal rca options). Does anyone know how to determine if it is a bass boost knob or an actual level control? I'd prefer to use the zapco option vs a universal if possible.

The boost knob will plug into the amp with cord that you would use for a telephone. The gain (universal) knob will be wired to the amp via rca's. The pac lc-1 is good option.

I get that part. I've seen some amps where the phone cable style knob is actually gain contro/level control instead of bass boost. Just curious if that's the case with the zapco knob. Couldn't find an answer anywhere. Ill probably end up going with the lc-1 to be safe.

I've never seen the phone style cable act as a gain control, only boost but there could be some out there.....the lc-1 is cheap and good quality.

CT bass knobs are gain knobs. DD makes one too. Soundstream. I was just curious if this one was. Thanks for the input on the lc-1 though. Just ordered it. I was surprised they are only about 10 bucks. Typically everything else pac brand has a pretty big markup.

I actually have mt audios universal knob in my truck right now but will be installing the lc-1 with the new setup. The mt audio is exactly the same as ct's unit. Other than it being .4 volts lower than it should be, never had a problem with it.

No problem.

my friend tried a skar audio remote gain knob on a dd amp and it did not work. So im not sure how universal they are between brands.

I didn't mean they an universal. I just meant that they control gain. My main question is if the zapco bass knob is a bass boost knob or a gain knob. Can't find an answer anywhere

I had one of the ct universals in my camry too. Cool unit. .4v low as well. I just bought a smd voltmeter though. Not really sure where to mount it though. GS300 dashes are pretty tight as it is.
