kingsize513 Posted February 25, 2016 Report Posted February 25, 2016 i have a solo x 18 inch sub and its a dual 1ohm voice coil. i reconed it few months ago and stuck it in a prefabbed box that i had laying around my shop, it sounded great it hits hard and sounded healthy. i went a spent the money on a custom built enclosure. i took the sub from the prefab box into the custom box and now every time i turn the bass up i get a strong burning smell from the voice coils. i took sub out and checked the coil, it seems like its got a blackish tint to it i know that not good. what baffles me the sub does not get hot not even worm it be cold to touch but still smelling like coil burning also using a ppi pdx 10k amp to run the sub. im still on stock electrical got to group 31 dekas batteries in the back with 0 AWG.

kingsize513 Posted February 25, 2016 Author Report Posted February 25, 2016 ill put it in the other box n try. i even inverted the sub just to see if its a loading issue but it still smelled like coils burning. and both boxes are ported.

Any time you have have a power wire next to your frame put some rubber hosing (or cut up an innertube) around it. The wire is bound to wiggle (due to driving or flex) and the casing will eventually wear through. Hammerdown... 1% no links to outside websites, business related FB/YT pages allowed.
