I have a this guy http://www.valuehobby.com/gt-power-12v-20a-power-supply.html its a 20A supply with a readout of how many amps its is putting out. the readout is accurate enough but I only use it for my RC battery charger and head units. If you wanted something with a little more pep you can mod an old HP proliant server power supply to run things but I haven't tested mine because I have two wired for 24v uses.

If I really needed a nice robust power source for a bench I would get a huge car battery and a nice charger.
