pimpedout97x
how can i get past this, to log into windows (vista)? what i really want to do is install XP, but its not letting me... i boot from my xp pro cd, gets to the part that says -to set up windows xp now press enter -repair press R etc. i press enter, and it says setup did not find any hard disk drivers installed in your computer. make sure any hard disk drivers are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disck related hardware configuration is correct. this may involve running a manf. supplied diag or setup program. setup cant continue, press f3 to quit setup. wtf

Tub Asko
vista is the mother of all bitches to get off a computer. you prolly have to manually format the hard drive in command prompt then try installing the disc. google it most def though. maademperor
before you format, you need to determine if your xp disc has SP2 slipstreamed into it AND if your computer has SATA hard drives. the vanilla XP disc has no support for SATA controllers and will report no hard drives (at least it didnt used to, havent installed xp in awhile). If you have sata drives, google "slipstream xp service packs" and follow that to make your own XP disc, then try booting from and see if it sees your hard disc. EricM9104
What motherboard? Sounds like you'll have to load the SATA controller drivers before letting Windows XP setup load completely in order for the HD to be detected. Do you have an IDE HD to try and see if Windows will detect it? maademperor
yes, but i dont really wanna take apart the laptop. its a dell xps 1530 Hmm, Dell doesnt seem to even have any xp drivers for the m1530? http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/...tid=&impid= at any rate, try what emat19876 said and get the sata drivers (unzip them to a floppy and hit f6 during the xp disc loading screen to load them).
