gain matching amps? a few questions

Ok so as far as gain matching amps this is how i udnerstand about doing it

I play a test tone on the deck and set the gains with a dmm on the speaker outputs and match the voltage reading.

now heres my question.

Can i set them at a low volume and gain match them? where i live i cant be doin loud ass burps or anything

Do i need the subwoofers hooked to the amp to gain matc the amps?

Right now i have the 2 amps set under clipping using track 3 on smd dd-1, surely this is not gain matched though considering they are same brand amps but 1 is a newer version with slightly different internals then the other 1

The gain match would be done with the subs unhooked with a DMM and a 60hz tone. Set them up with the DD1 and then match them by turning the high one down to match the low one.

exactly what I had planned just wasn't sure if it could be done with subs unhooked. should the gain be matched at full tilt volume setting? or any volume is fine?

I'm guessing whatever volume I play it at the most?

you can use the 40hz tone you set your gains with at the volume you set your gains with. Much more simple, no subs hooked up.

The gain match would be done with the subs unhooked with a DMM and a 60hz tone. Set them up with the DD1 and then match them by turning the high one down to match the low one.

does the frequency matter to much as long as its a substage frequency?
