1968 Pontiac Firebird Convertible Build

Recommended Posts

Got the rest of my undercarriage cleaned and sprayed. Got my pistons and rods cleaned, put all new rings and bearings after the cylinders were honed. Water pump just came in today. Have to paint that prior to assembling the heads and intake. I had my carb rebuilt prior to motor rebuild. Got the th400 trans for a smoking deal. 2500 stall converter, shift kit, speedo, dipstick.

I already uploaded my pics but wont let me attach a link to this post. Cell phone ftl.

Definetly, im getting excited. Going to be putting my motor back together this week. Found a deal on a rebuilt th400. Hope to be picking it up soon. Paint and body are next after it runs and drives down the street. Mayfair maize yellow is factory color so ill be going with that. White convertible too which ive already purchased. Black dash, black carpet. White seats ( houndstooth ) if i can find them and white door panels. A very tasteful look for the bird. A little more ordinary than black, red, blue or white green. Which is the only colors ive seen in person

Ive only been building this car for a little under a year. I did the back half on my nova and front suspension prior to building this. 200+ hrs on each car. With some help from pops who is about to touch 62 yrs. His 68 camaro 4 speed is next in line to get some cool shit as well. Ill try and make a build log for that as well if i see lots of interest.

Dont talk about it, be about it.

Ricky from TPB's shirt as seat material?! lol thats badass.

I really wish I wasnt on a time frame when I painted my car last winter, wanted to wet sand after every coat but simply couldn't fit it in without booth access

That sucks. The seats i was talking about are for fuel on the heads. My next step is paint and body. Cant go cheap on that because youll see it right away. I pick things apart so bad the person who sprays this car is going to hate me. Going for 5 flaws or less on the whole car. Gonna cost $$$ but you get what you pay for.

Will you be doing the body work then having someone else spray? Usually body shops wont touch someone elses work
