tejcurrent Posted April 24, 2008 Report Share Posted April 24, 2008 (edited) I have a rott/lab mix that we've been training since we picked him up from the pound a few months ago. He's still excitable at around 1-2 years old, but he's still a smart dog that learns quick and doesn't have destructive tendancies. My wifes friend was leaving town till this upcoming saturday, and she was asked to watch their 5 month old pitbull. She figured it wouldn't be a big deal since the dog has all it's shots and meds. We have a fenced in back yard and a screen porch so they can be dry in the rain and cool in the heat of the day. This pit is very whiny, but calms down after a while. Tonight I got home, fed the dogs, made sure they had fresh water, but this attention starved dog constantly nips mines face whenever I start petting my dog. I figured I'd lock the pit outside the porch while I gave my dog some attention. I did, then ate dinner and went outside to play with them for a while. In the less than 1/2 hour I was inside, I returned outside to find both dogs on my porch- the pit chewed a 1x2ft hole through the door. :mad: Needless to say my wifes friends wont be happy when they get back and I ask them to buy a new door, but now I'm trying to figure out what to do. The dog has been fed for the night, so I tied it up under my carport with a 10ft leash and a bowl of water where it can't reach anything. 10 minutes later I go outside because it wont stop barking and it chewed the only thing it could- the dish. Now about an hour or so later it is STILL barking. I want to treat the animal as fairly as possible, but I can't leave it lose in the yard because it started chewing through the front porch door- where it would be lose in the street. I don't want to leave it tied- mainly because it wont stop barking. Anyone with any advice? Anyone at all, please help. Guest Posted April 24, 2008 Report Share Posted April 24, 2008 yea that reminds me of a story... getting off the bus (i was in kindergarden). and the bus driver usually drops me off about 2 blocks from my house, so im walking like normally do de do de do. then i see the neighbor's house with the pitbull that i pass every day. but that day the pit must've been really pissed off cause it broke the steel chain loop thing it was on. and this was the kind of chain that they use in engine lift machines. it broke it and started to chase me barking, i screamed and ran for my f*cking life. then the thing just decided to stop running and left me be. I know there are plenty of people who will argue both sides of this arguement, and I don't feel like going into it. I was raised to keep animals outside, I don't like the hair or the smell. They have to stay outside. ^And at the moment it hasn't chewed its leash through, so that's not the debate Glad the dog didn't get ahold of you, I was chased into a tree by a large nasty nasty dog when I was little, really hate untrained dogs.
