ckeeler11 Posted October 11, 2016 Report Posted October 11, 2016 i can tell you that on all the configurations you have very high port velocities 115 ft/sec+. Ideally you want to be below 70 ft/sec. the 3 options i see are: 1) find more space for a bigger box, to allow you to put in a proper port. you can get away with 60 sq/in. at a minimum. 2) different sub. 3) live with what you have.

Im trying to figure out this port velocity thing.. kinda confusing. the owner of sundown sent me an email saying that 1.75 net @ 35 hz is best for this sub... max is 2.00 net .. but nothing bigger.. but still 1.75 is better than 2.. i can post his exact email if needed but to summarize he said something about 1.75 allowing more mechanical limits for low end response. to decrease port velocity, what do i need to do? u say put in a proper port.. how do i do this, what is a proper port and how is mine not a proper port? thanks
ckeeler11 Posted October 11, 2016 Report Posted October 11, 2016 Thats fine you can still make it 1.75 net, with 60 sq. in, of port. Box could be 13.5h x 33w x 20d with a port 12h x 5w x 50l box will have a net volume of 1.78 cu.ft and 60 sq. in. of port area.

ckeeler11 Posted October 11, 2016 Report Posted October 11, 2016 I'm just going by what WinISD is telling me. Manufacturers are notorious for under-sizing ports to keep box sizes small so people will by bigger more expensive subs. Plus you are overpowering the sub and power factors into port velocity. red is 36" of port green is 60" of port

Plus you are overpowering the sub and power factors into port velocity. red is 36" of port green is 60" of port ill be honest that thought crossed my mind as well that perhaps i was being told incorrect specs in order to please me a bit but leave me wanting more thus upgrading to the next best thing.. but i dunno.. i want to give sundown the benefit of the doubt and hope that they are posting the correct recommendations.. would be pretty whack if thats not the case..the red obv is way peakier than the green.. im going to go ahead and post the question and response i got from jacob when i asked him about box size
ckeeler11 Posted October 11, 2016 Report Posted October 11, 2016 I dont have an issue with the box size and i do not see in this emaill where he says anything about port area.

ckeeler11 Posted October 12, 2016 Report Posted October 12, 2016 I would never go against an expert on the subs but I imagine you will be leaving quite a bit of output on the table with that box.
