akuma4u Posted October 1, 2016 Report Posted October 1, 2016 im sorry for the amount of posts regarding this.. i need a final confirmation from some of u people who are more knowledgeable. I have trunk size limitations and am forced to work with tight measurements however, according to jacob fuller the owner of sundown he explained to me that the zv3 12 works best in 1.75 tuned to 35 hz. my builder says 2 cubes. when i asked fuller why 1.75 he said although 2 cubes will work - when u use 2 cubes you run into mechanical limits on the lower frequencies quicker hence why he prefers using 1.75 or less. (i can post his exact response if needed) anyways.. here is the design i made up using torres please someone confirm or correct any errors that may be seen as this is my first time im designing. (using clean 2krms) thank you
Joe X Posted October 1, 2016 Report Posted October 1, 2016 You went a hair below the recommended port area but since you are overpowering maybe a little more port area would make sense, other than that it shows the small calculation errors that Torres introduces, since everything above is rather slight you might as well build it like that, the port length (in Torres) is measured along the center line, as in the following example: The port center line length is 31".
akuma4u Posted October 1, 2016 Author Report Posted October 1, 2016 heres my sketch up... 1.75 net 35hz... any errors? or is it ok?

Joe X Posted October 1, 2016 Report Posted October 1, 2016 Yes, the center line is measured along the middle of the width of the port and end to end, you can see it on the sample box sketch I posted, those are the 10 3/4" and 20 1/4" segments which added are 31", in your Torres above it's 32 inches port length, in your case your port width is 2 1/2 so the center line would be 1 1/4" from either port wall (in the middle).

But when i change the value from 2.5 width to 2 and the length from 32 to 31 , my port area goes from 30 inch sq to 24 inch sq , so thats decreasing port area not increasing... am i correct on this? conversely if i increase port width to 3 inches from my 2.5 i get 36 inch sq of port area instead of my 30 which obv is increasing..
Joe X Posted October 2, 2016 Report Posted October 2, 2016 Decreasing port area would not help, it would mainly make you lose bass coming from the port at higher volume levels, I'd say leave it as it is or increase it slightly, say 2.75 wide but that would force you to increase your box size a bit and port length to keep the 35Hz, if you can't have a slightly larger box then leave it as it is.

I apologize for so many posts regarding this.. but just as i think i have things figured out, something new gets introduced that throws me off. I did my best to do this myself but the programs i need are either too confusing or cost like 200 bucks (termlab).. therefore.... i am willing to pay for the following services: i built a box using the specs here but it leaves me wanting more.. i want to tune the box a little higher AND open the port width up to 2.75 or 3 inches.. however i have no idea what kind of plot that would create so thats where i need help.. ive tried doing this on my own but i think im messing something up. a few curves i need : 1.75 net @ 35hz , 2000rms 12x2.75 1.75 net @ 35 hz, 2000 rms 12x 3 1.75 net @ 40hz, 2000rms 12x2.75 1.75 net @ 40hz, 2000rms 12x3 then repeat the same thing except use 2.00 net and finally 4 plots using a 5 inch aero/sono tube 1.75 @ 40 2 @ 40 1.75@ 35 2@ 35 max external dimensions are as follows height 13.5 width 32 depth 15 i know this takes time and effort so im willing to pay for the plots and design i choose after viewing these plots... the port velocity calculation and effect has confused me and skepticism of what increasing the port area above recommended specs (32 sq inches @ 2 cubes) is something i really want to see before i plop my money down to a builder to build another box for me.. i would really appreciate the help and as i said i can work out a payment thru paypal..
ckeeler11 Posted October 10, 2016 Report Posted October 10, 2016 with all you are needing why dont you just download win isd and run them yourself. it is an easy program to use and its free.
akuma4u Posted October 11, 2016 Author Report Posted October 11, 2016 with all you are needing why dont you just download win isd and run them yourself. it is an easy program to use and its free. i have tried but i think something is off in the data that i entered which is resulting in incorrect plots.. maybe someone can take a look at this pic and tell me if i need to change any of the values or not
