Alt setup to run 5k?

Yup, that is the stock alt, leave it alone. Get a dual alt bracket (or triple or quad) and don't wire any of the extra alts to your stock one. Please check out my build log as this is what i have been doing for years. Your stock alt is 2 pin and PCM controlled. If you get multiple alt bracket they can be internally regulated and can be 4 pin. or externally regulated etc. I use that second battery tray for my second charging system. 2 batteries under hood, one for each charging system. 2 alts. one for each charging system. Stock alt left alone because it hot charges 13.8 for MPG's and has ground sensor. 2nd charging system can hot charge as high as I want and has all kinds of aftermarket grounds. Grounded in front, grounded in back etc. Don't change or do anything to your current electrical system. Just add a second one, they make it easy for full size GM vehicles. Buy a dual kit, buy a second battery, buy a second alternator, run wire to the back, blazam, done. If you fuck with stock electrical all grounds need to go through that sensor or your voltage will be all over the place, really low then really high.... Key word here is "separate" charging systems. The only thing they will share is a belt.

I'll definitely check out your build log since it'll be pertinate to what I'm doing and your help is spot on. Appreciate it so far. Where would be the best place to buy a alt mounting bracket? Do I need a billet hold down for the new battery I'll put in? Should I wire my head unit differently since I'll be adding mids, highs, and a new amp(assuming the mids/highs amp to the second system)?

DC Power Engineering sells them and so does [email protected] made by Jimmy Zukauska

Don't need a billet to hold down second battery, there is already threads in the tray, go to parts store or Walmart and for a few bucks buy the wedge piece with bolt to hold it down like any other battery.

Don't have to wire the HU any differently, however, if you do plan on running multiple amps I suggest buying a relay for your remote wire.

I saw the dual alt bracket for like $250 or so. I'll probably snag that and put in two Mechman 240a alts for $350 peice. Can't find anything cheaper alt wise around that amperage. $700 for one 370a or $700 for two 240a. Then find one of the biggest XS batteries to run under the hood with 2-3 XS3400 bats in the back. I hope that'll be fine as a daily driver ground pounder for an electrical system.

You don't even need to replace stock alt. dual kit=still using stock alt.

I was under the impression of using two seperate electrical systems. Buying a bracket for dual 240a and other batteries for my car audio and leaving the original alt and battery alone?

Gotcha. to run dual 240a just for stereo you need a triple alt bracket because the stock one counts as one.
