Ok cool thank you

I was confused thinking the volt meter would stay on if hooked to power in amp but I have the amps ran to the switch so it will all turn off

It didn't come with a turn on wire? Personally, I like to know the voltage at my amps rather than somewhere else. Just because voltage at your switch is good doesn't mean voltage at your amps is good too. Low possibility that it is much different but if your wiring starts to come loose or a fuse goes bad or ground comes lose and so on, you will see that at your amps while your front battery might be just fine. It's a small possibility but I want to know the voltage at the end point, not before.

it seems he save money by buying a meter with no remote wire so he could spend extra on a switch for it.

When the voltage at your amp seems to be lower than usual, you will know to start looking for a bad connection. Instead of burning up a connection or the amp. Cheap insurance.

you could have just used the acc wire on the headunit instead of a switch or remote wire. my point is you are over complicating things.
