testing port freq using a store bought box

Recommended Posts

ok folks i know there is  ways to do a lot of things ,but from a simple standpoint for this argument ,say i have a store bought sub box. we will say its a single 12 inch box and the res freq of the port should be 35. now say i have some random sub and the resonant frequency of that sub is say 40 just for different numbers sake.   now in simple terms, how would you know that sub box actually has that frequency .  using a sinewave may do it but there is the issue. you have 2 different res freq going on right?

so if i use a sine way from 100hz to say 20hz, i should AUDIBLY hear the 2 different res freq right? and that would be through the port .   we all know the make or have a box made idea abut just for the sake of argument here.  all the other stuff is not the point just the question is what i was asking. just trying to keep it on topic.

You know what it is tuned to by doing math. What they together will peak at inside the vehicle is dependent on a lot of different variables.

just play test tones and a high volume, watch the sub, when it moves the least amount that is your tuning. FS is pretty irrelevant  unless FS is like 100hz or something. start at like 45hz and work your way down.

the port will be doing all the work at tuning. you can get pretty close using this method.

duck .thats what i was thinking also..  close is all that matters lol..  now there will be 2 tuning frequencies? one being the port and the other being the subs tuning freq? or once its all in the box it combines to one frequency. (chevy boys) i will get to your part later. i know what you are saying...
