moh.vze.com Posted March 8, 2017 Report Posted March 8, 2017 Lately, I've noticed my Mike Singer Alt been making squealing noise when I'm accelerating from a red light to a green on full tilt music. This all started happening after I had my mechanic do the timing belt, water pump, cover gasket valve changes. I'm guessing the mechanic had to remove the alt belt to get to the timing belt stuff and didn't put the Alt belt back on tight enough? Or is the belt worn out? I installed the Gates belt in 2012 when I installed the Singer alt but I was never able to reach that second belt towards the back (some reason my Camry has two alt belts...) Or is it the alt bearings going bad? Any ideas what could be causing the loud obnoxious squealing? Edit: Another note to add is... it sequels like this when I'm turning from a stop position DC Audio - Singer Alternators - Knukonceptz - XS Power - Hybrid Audio - Rockford Fosgate - Second Skin Audio - SMD - Sundown Audio - Elemental Designs
SnowDrifter Posted March 8, 2017 Report Posted March 8, 2017 Did they replace the alternator belt during the service? Some places to, some don't. If they did, it's probably a stock belt and a hair too long given the smaller pulley on your alternator. If not, it might be time to toss a new one on. It's a 5 year old belt, not a bad run for having an aftermarket alternator ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444

I'll probably swap them on later end of this Month to see if the squeal goes away. Right now it only happens maybe once in a while but when it does squeal, that shit is loud as hell. What's the second belt towards the back though? I did some youtube searches and with that one, it looks like I'd have to remove the tire in order to get to the tensioner if I wanted to replace it... will it be fine just to replace the front alt belt and not the bottom rear one? SnowDrifter Posted March 8, 2017 Report Posted March 8, 2017 If memory serves that's for your power steering. If memory also serves, your belt tension is controlled manually. In that case, disregard what I said about replacing belts for the time being. Take a peek under the hood and inspect them. There should be no cracks or fraying. A little glazing is to be expected due to the squeal, but what you really want to do is look in between the V grooves of the belt. Make sure there's still material there. If it's worn through, you'll see what looks like a fabric underneath. If you see that, replace the belt. If not, go ahead and increase the tension slightly. ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444

Thanks. I'll give the belt a quick inspection tomorrow night to see if it has too many cracks. Hopefully the belt wasn't damaged from the massive oil leak I had going on through the cover gasket valves.
