8ten8 Posted May 6, 2017 Report Posted May 6, 2017 I've been prepping the rear chassis for grounds as I will be grounding my amps and batt bank to the chassis back there. So my question is, along with grounding the alt to neg. terminal under good, would I do my second alt ground to chassis under hood OR ground in the rear near the amp and batt bank grounds?
ShadeTreeMechanic Posted May 6, 2017 Report Posted May 6, 2017 I would ground both the front and the rear. You will need both to complete the circuit. 91 C350 Centurion conversion ( Four Door One Ton Bronco) 250A Alternator (Second Alternator Coming Soon) G65 AGM Up Front / Two G31 AGM in Back Pioneer 80PRS CT Sounds AT125.2 / CT Sounds 6.5 Strato Pro component Front Stage CT Sounds AT125.2 / Lanzar Pro 8" coax w/compression horn tweeter Rear Fill FSD 5000D 1/2 ohm (SoundQubed 7k Coming Soon) Two HDS315 Four Qubes Each 34hz (Two HDC3.118 and New Box Coming Soon)

Thanks ShadeTree I hope I didn't misunderstand your question. Just to be clear: you have the alt grounded to your battery. From this ground you need to ground to the frame up front. Then from the rear the batteries need to be grounded to the frame in the back also. 91 C350 Centurion conversion ( Four Door One Ton Bronco) 250A Alternator (Second Alternator Coming Soon) G65 AGM Up Front / Two G31 AGM in Back Pioneer 80PRS CT Sounds AT125.2 / CT Sounds 6.5 Strato Pro component Front Stage CT Sounds AT125.2 / Lanzar Pro 8" coax w/compression horn tweeter Rear Fill FSD 5000D 1/2 ohm (SoundQubed 7k Coming Soon) Two HDS315 Four Qubes Each 34hz (Two HDC3.118 and New Box Coming Soon)

The under hood battery is also grounded to the block and to the chassis (2 runs per, all up front). I read a thread from 2014 regarding alt grounding and amps/batts in the rear that also included a YouTube vid that TonyD did. After it was all said and done, I am more confused than I was to begin with. Not sure if I need to do another ground run from alt to rear chassis or battery.
ShadeTreeMechanic Posted May 6, 2017 Report Posted May 6, 2017 Generally speaking, a front to back ground run is only needed after two or three positive runs front to back. If you just have one or two positive runs, then the frame is the only ground you will need. 91 C350 Centurion conversion ( Four Door One Ton Bronco) 250A Alternator (Second Alternator Coming Soon) G65 AGM Up Front / Two G31 AGM in Back Pioneer 80PRS CT Sounds AT125.2 / CT Sounds 6.5 Strato Pro component Front Stage CT Sounds AT125.2 / Lanzar Pro 8" coax w/compression horn tweeter Rear Fill FSD 5000D 1/2 ohm (SoundQubed 7k Coming Soon) Two HDS315 Four Qubes Each 34hz (Two HDC3.118 and New Box Coming Soon)

And yeah, I got 2 positive runs going to the rear.
ShadeTreeMechanic Posted May 6, 2017 Report Posted May 6, 2017 If your alt is grounded to the battery and your battery is grounded to the frame then you are good. You don't need the extra alt to frame ground but it wouldn't hurt anything. 91 C350 Centurion conversion ( Four Door One Ton Bronco) 250A Alternator (Second Alternator Coming Soon) G65 AGM Up Front / Two G31 AGM in Back Pioneer 80PRS CT Sounds AT125.2 / CT Sounds 6.5 Strato Pro component Front Stage CT Sounds AT125.2 / Lanzar Pro 8" coax w/compression horn tweeter Rear Fill FSD 5000D 1/2 ohm (SoundQubed 7k Coming Soon) Two HDS315 Four Qubes Each 34hz (Two HDC3.118 and New Box Coming Soon)
