got 48"x42"x"24 to work with

looking to build a different box for my. just finished building a 27hz t-line box that fill up the entire dimensions listed in title, but im not really in to the way it sounds. The low is nice and all, got my whole steering column shaking on only 500w rms alpine amp, and the cab 1600.1 really puts in the ground'n'pound. But im really looking to achieve the chest wrenching, throat choking, brain rattling, mesmerizing tones. from the research ive gathered over reading forums the last 2 months (without having someone i actually know in person to ask constant questions about stuff like those, i know only one bass head and hes still learning as well) it seems that those fqhz im looking for are in the range of 38's-42's??? correct me if im wrong. i realize the little cab 1600.1 and two type r's arent going to be making anyone tap or anything, but just those tones and the type of feeling they give you are really what i like in my bass music. i listen to alot of elec, but not punchy fast shit, more of the heavy drop/dubstep/chillstep/edm shit. so enough of the background, so u can get an idea of what type of bass im looking for....

so ive got a yukon denali and im trying to build a box to take up as much of the rear trunk space as possible. maybe its slightly "fuk-boy'ish" but i like the look of a huge box. it drove me crazy having the huge trunk space with the little audio shop pre-fab box just sitting back there. very akward looking. id like to mandatory take up the entire 48" width of the trunk no matter what. but from there im wondering 1: how big is how big, the type r's only suggest 1.7 cu/f (i know most people put around 2.2cu/f) per sub, but im just kind of new to this stuff and wondering if building a 12 cu/f box (giving 6 to each sub) will i be losing some of my bass, or even causing more of a roll off effect? basically what is the expense of making my box huge. 2: second thing im wondering is some input as far as tuning frequency, judging by the type of music i listen to listen above and the type of bass "feeling" im looking for, what do you suggest. i was thinking 36-38, but that is based of the assumptions i said earlier. thanks in advance for the help. if someone thinks they can design something good, ill be more then willing to send some money via paypal. 2 alpine type r 12" dual 4ohm

Putting two 12"s in a 12 cu ft box is a good way to destroy your subs.  Before that happens you are going to have really peaky output, which you may not like either.  

If you want a box to take up that whole space and actually do something you need more subwoofer.  The space you have would be great for four 15"s or two 18"s.  

As far as tuning frequency goes, the higher you tune the more peak output you are likely to get, however output drops off fast below tuning.  The general rule is to tune a couple Hz above the lowest frequency you want to play well.  Somewhere in that 36-40 Hz range might be good for you.

Say 4 DD9518s in a wall on 10K+ should be able to do it.

lol yea i got no doubt in my mind those will grab ur gut lol but thats a lil beyond what im looking for right now. i DO plan on going for a 4 seat wall build (my middle row is two bucket seats, not the three man bench), i want to go with like a couple sundowns and thow 6-8k on her... but as far as this build goes.  im just looking for something to give that sensation, ive fely two fosgate p3's in a buddies car 10+ years ago lay INNN, so i know i can atleast get similar results, if not better with some 5th gen type R's years later with more rms power

sundowns or skars will be next on the list in 3 months or so, but really just want to feel things out with testing and learn the ins and outs on some cheap 170-200$ subs. can fuk up and burn subs with out too much of a worry. i do plan on stepping things up to the good and respectable brands. for now im just having fun building different boxes and gaining some experience.

Your bud's car I'm sure was not as large as yours now, you need large subs, cone area, to achieve this effect even if the subs are not top end. look 15s up and 2K up at least. say 2 SA-15s to start, they are rather cheap and they won't burn on 2K at all.

i can throw one seat in the third row leaving me a foot print of 24"x42", would that help to make things more efficient for 2 12's just for the time being

i can see exactly what u guys are saying now. im going to start shopping around for a couple 15's right now then as a matter of fact. maybe try throwing something together this weekend with the new footprint dimensions i just mentioned in last post ^ to atleast hold me over for the next couple weeks
