kam311 Posted June 13, 2017 Report Posted June 13, 2017 I am helping a buddy with a box design and, like usual, trying to cram as much into as little of an enclosure as I can. The space is very limited because it is behind the seat of a 05 silverado crew cab. My main question is: Is a 4" round port (i can make it aero if I need to) enough port area to avoid a ton of port noise in my box. As is, the box is 1.25 cubes and there will be 2 sundown e8's in the box. I've been reading up and there is quite a bit of contradicting information, so I'm asking a place that I trust. This is really my first time with round ports. so far... We are running 900 watts. I guess I might have to get a little more creative with the box to squeeze out a little more air space. The problem I am having is that with more port area the mouth of the port is ending up really close to the subs and I am afraid we will have an unloading issue with a straight port that close to the subs. so far... Yeah on 900 watts a single 4" port is significantly undersized. You really should have two 4" ports or a single larger slot port. Due to your limited space, fitting the port is going to be a challenge. I did the calculations separately and just subtracted the extra airspace gained from the woofer displacement. Here is a different design, am I going to run into unloading issues like this, or should I use the odd shape and just have the port running along the top instead? I appreciate the help, you are very right.
