maybe something was draining your battery while you were working all day and the light coming on when you opened your door made it drop enough to beep / whine.

Thats what I was starting to think.

Any idea what kind of isolator the shop put on to get rid of the alt whine? If it's what I'm thinking (a battery isolator?), that might be your problem...allowing your cap to drain but not affecting your primary battery.

bad cap maybe, personally i hate caps....

Just another thing to have to check connections with!

Ever think about adding a battery instead of the cap?

I did notice that on occasions when the voltage changed they react...

+1, caps discharge fast as hell and theres alot of other means of storing power. an HC600/800 will do a great job as a power storage device. or you can go full out and put an HC2000 or 2400 in there. normally the model number (600,800,1200) is how many watts that batt can support in a system. I.E an HC2400 can support a 2400rms system pretty well
