Enclosure for a single Sundown E12V2-D4

I don't see any ranges for recommendations for this subwoofer on sundowns website since the V3 is now on their website. I have a subaru impreza and can make a box up to 36" wide. I'm also powering this baby with an Alpine mrp-m1000.

The only catch is that the mdf I have available is already cut to 16" widths but each is already 48" long

I don't mind making a 3-4 cubic foot box if the sub will actually be able to use it

I'm also open to either slot or round ports

1.5 - 2.0 cu ft of net volume will work well.  30-35 Hz tuning frequency.  Smaller boxes and lower tuning frequencies will get you smoother frequency response. Larger boxes and higher tuning frequencies will get you more peak output.  

I have a E-12v2 in a 1.5 cu ft box tuned to 28 Hz and I like how it sounds.

So here is a suggestion,  you should be able to build it with the materials you have, power: to sub rated, amp subsonic filter to 28Hz, minimum port clearance 2 1/4", figure is just an assembly guide:

NOTE: If building outside you need to build a cardboard dummy box to test fit in it's way inside.

So I'm almost done building this box and I just realized the sub cutout is 11-1/8" leaving me with 7/16" between the cutout and the top/bottom panels. Is this too close that it would effect the strength of the box? Or would you recommend I place the sub facing upwards with the port facing backwards?

Should be fine, I’d just build it as you originally intended.
