16jkur
I currently have a Kicker comp RT 10" shallow mount. Ordered a cxa 600.1 amp. Also ordered a Kicker q class 8" subwoofer (l7). Was this a bad choice? Someone said, 'why would you go from a 10" to an 8"?'. The 10" RT is almost 10 years old, and just isn't enough bass anymore. I ordered the new sub from crutchfield, still in the mail, unsure if they take returns.

What amp do you have now powering the 10? 2011 Chevy Silverado under construction My build log here. Check it out!
16jkur
It's on a 4 channel hertz amp, hooked up on the rears. 2 components on the front.

Well, getting a dedicated mono block amp for the sub is a step in the right direction. Usually, 4 channel amps aren't good to run subs off of because of it sending a stereo signal (left and right signal) to the sub(s). You will probably get a bump in sound quality, and even a little bump in volume, but not a huge change. 2011 Chevy Silverado under construction My build log here. Check it out! Kicker cxa 600.1 8" q class l7 in a box. Only way to know for sure is to slap it in. A huge factor in getting a subwoofer to sound the way you want it is the enclosure. Usually, premade enclosures aren't optimum to what the sub actually calls for. If you have the means to have an enclosure designed for you, specific to your sub and the power you're going to send to it, you have a lot better chance of being satisfied with the sound. 16jkur
Oh ok, it comes in its own box. I have seen a website that builds boxes for exact model of woofer, it's a lot bigger than what it comes in.

I bet of you saw a frequency response graph of the premade enclosure it comes in, and the special, custom built box, the custom built box would be way more appealing. After your vehicles electrical (which only using 600ish watts, that's not a huge concern), the enclosure is more important than the equipment by far 2011 Chevy Silverado under construction My build log here.
